5 Dezember Konstantstromquelle
5 Konstantstromquelle
5 Constant current source
Open the 5th door. You'll find a white LED behind it. You can recognize them by the yellowish spot on the LED crystal, which is the phosphor which converts the original blue light of the LED into white light.
In this experiment, the white LED lights with low but constant brightness, because a constant current comes up.
Even if you replace a weak battery with a new one, the brightness stays the same.
The LED current flows through drain and source as well as through the source resistor of 10 kOhm.
This creates a voltage drop of around 2 V at the resistor. The source voltage is thus 2 V above the GND voltage.
However, since the gate is directly at GND, the gate voltage with respect to the source terminal is negative and measures -2 V.
Thus the transistor is almost locked, so that only a small current flows. This current is very stable,
because each current change leads to a change in the gate voltage and thus to an opposite change in the drain current.
The magnitude of the constant current depends on the characteristics of the transistor and the source resistance.
A constant current source is a typical task for a JFET because it can be built with minimal component expenses.
In contrast to a JFET, a MOSFET, like the well-known BS107, only conducts at a positive voltage at the gate, so that it can not be used in this circuit.

Re: 5 Dezember Konstantstromquelle
Hello Ingo,
Thank you for including this experiment which is a very important application for a fet transistor.
I have set up this experiment real quick thanks to the Busch system and made the battery test as you suggested. The current flowing through the led was maintained as you suggested.
Here a setup : And here a diagram : And now a challenge, what will happen when we build the circuit as follows ? Many greetings

Re: 5 Dezember Konstantstromquelle
Hallo zusammen!
