16 Licht-Theremin
16 Light theremin
Behind the 16th door, there is a small capacitor of 10 nF. With this, you can build another musical instrument.
A theremin is played by changing the distance to the instrument without touching it directly.
In this experiment, a light sensor is used which changes the sound with increasing light.
Play the theremin with a flashlight.
The closer you get to the sensor, the higher the tone will be.
If additional artificial light falls onto the sensor, a buzzing sound can be heard; this buzzing is caused by flickering lights.
The changed oscillator circuit uses the Dis exit (Discharge) and has a big sound range.
The phototransistor uses light-dependent charge which charges the capacitor up to 2/3 Vcc.
Then, the Dis exit is activated and discharges it to the lower threshold of 1/3 Vcc.
The voltage of the charging capacitor changes repeatedly between the thresholds of 3V and 6V.
The brighter the light, the quicker the discharge, and the higher the tone.
